Goldco Review 2026: Fees, Pricing, Pros & Cons
Goldco is a precious metals dealer that helps customers buy physical gold and silver directly or through a self-directed precious metals IRA.
The company has substantial customer-review volume and has operated in the Gold IRA market for more than a decade. However, those reputation signals should not be the main basis for choosing a precious metals dealer.
The more important question is what you are actually paying for the gold or silver.
Goldco does not provide a sufficiently transparent public pricing environment for a prospective customer to calculate the premium on every product before speaking to the company.
That means anyone considering Goldco should compare the quoted purchase price against the underlying metal value, understand the premium being charged and establish what the same metals might be worth if sold back.

What Is Goldco?
Goldco is a California-based precious metals dealer offering gold and silver IRAs as well as direct purchases of physical precious metals.
BBB records list Goldco as having started business on October 26, 2011, with BBB accreditation beginning in December 2011. The company is currently headquartered in Calabasas, California.
Goldco’s model is primarily service-led rather than self-service. Customers normally speak with representatives when establishing an account, transferring retirement funds, choosing metals and arranging purchases.
That distinction matters.
Someone who wants telephone support through the Gold IRA process may see value in that model. Someone who wants to see live product prices, calculate premiums independently and execute everything online may find it less attractive.
How a Goldco Gold IRA Works
A Goldco precious metals IRA is a self-directed IRA used to hold qualifying physical precious metals.
Goldco assists with the process, but the IRA itself must be administered by an appropriate self-directed IRA custodian. The physical metals must also be held by an eligible depository rather than stored personally while they remain inside the IRA.
The process generally involves:
- Opening a self-directed IRA with a custodian.
- Funding the account, often through a transfer or rollover from an existing retirement account.
- Choosing eligible gold or silver products.
- Using IRA funds to purchase those metals.
- Having the metals stored through an approved depository arrangement.
Goldco states that it works with established self-directed IRA custodians and bullion depositories. Before proceeding, confirm exactly which custodian will administer your account, where the metals will be stored and what each provider will charge.
A rollover should not be confused with simply withdrawing retirement money and purchasing metals personally. The tax treatment depends on how the transaction is structured, so investors unsure about the implications should obtain appropriate tax or financial advice.
Goldco Gold and Silver Products
Goldco offers both gold and silver products for precious metals IRAs and direct purchase.
Its current product pages include bullion coins, bars and a range of specialty or limited-mintage coins.
Examples include Gold American Eagles, Silver American Eagles and various coins produced by international mints. Goldco also lists gold and silver bars.
For IRA purposes, not every precious metal product qualifies.
Gold bullion generally has to meet a minimum .995 fineness standard, while silver generally requires .999 fineness. Certain coins have specific statutory treatment. The American Gold Eagle, for example, is IRA-eligible despite having a lower fineness than the general .995 bullion requirement.
More importantly, IRA eligibility tells you whether a product may be held inside the account. It tells you nothing about whether that product represents good value.
Two IRA-eligible coins containing similar amounts of precious metal can be sold at very different premiums.
That is why product selection and pricing should be examined together.
Goldco Fees and Costs
There are two separate categories of cost to understand when considering a Goldco IRA.
IRA infrastructure costs
A precious metals IRA requires a custodian to administer the account and a depository to store the physical metals.
Those arrangements can create:
- account establishment costs;
- annual custodial or administration charges;
- storage charges; and
- potentially other transaction-related charges.
Goldco’s own published information does not present one completely consistent universal fee schedule.
For example, one current Goldco guide says Gold IRA administration and storage costs are likely to run between approximately $150 and $300 depending on the type of storage selected. Another Goldco article describes annual maintenance and storage fees as normally running between approximately $200 and $300.
That is why we would not treat a single advertised fee figure as the amount every Goldco customer will pay.
Before opening an account, ask for the current fee schedule applying to your particular custodian, depository and storage arrangement.
Dealer economics
The second cost is potentially much more important.
It is the price you pay Goldco for the actual gold or silver.
Precious metals dealers generally sell products above the underlying spot or melt value of the metal. That difference is the premium.
For example, paying $5,000 for metal with an underlying value of $4,000 means you have paid a $1,000 premium, equivalent to 25% of the underlying metal value.
The size of that premium can have far more impact on the economics of the transaction than a relatively small difference in annual custodial fees.
That is why comparing Gold IRA companies purely on setup, administration and storage charges misses one of the most important costs.
Goldco Pricing, Premiums and Spreads
This is the area prospective Goldco customers should examine most carefully.
Goldco displays information about many of the gold and silver products it sells, but public product pages frequently direct the customer to call for pricing rather than displaying a transaction price that can be compared immediately with the underlying metal value.
That makes it difficult to calculate the economics of every potential purchase before entering the sales process.
For any Goldco quote, establish four numbers:
Quoted purchase price
The total amount Goldco is asking you to pay.
Spot or melt value: The approximate value of the precious metal contained in the product based on the current underlying market price.
Premium: The difference between the purchase price and the underlying metal value.
Potential resale or buyback value: What Goldco or another precious metals dealer would currently pay you for that same product. Suppose a product contains $20,000 of underlying metal but you are quoted $25,000.
The dollar premium is: $25,000 – $20,000 = $5,000
The premium relative to the underlying metal value is: $5,000 ÷ $20,000 = 25%
The next question should be what Goldco would currently pay to buy that same product back.
If the indicative repurchase price were $20,500, the investor would effectively begin the transaction with a substantial gap between the acquisition price and immediate resale value.
That does not automatically mean the product is inappropriate. Different coins can carry different premiums for reasons including supply, demand, mintages and market conditions.
But the buyer should understand that difference before agreeing to the transaction.
Why this matters with Goldco
This is not merely a theoretical concern.
BBB currently reports 74 complaints during the previous three years, with 38 complaints closed during the previous 12 months. BBB’s complaint categories currently include product issues, service or repair issues, sales and advertising issues, billing issues and customer-service issues.
Several complaints published during 2026 contain customer allegations concerning the difference between purchase prices, underlying metal values and later resale or buyback economics.
These are customer allegations, not regulatory findings or independently established facts.
Goldco has responded to complaints in the BBB record and disputes or explains aspects of individual cases. That distinction matters. However, the existence of those complaints is a reason for prospective customers to calculate product-level economics carefully before purchasing.
Goldco Reviews and Reputation
Goldco has significant positive consumer-review volume.
As of September 2026, BBB gives Goldco an A+ business rating and displays a customer-review score of 4.82/5 based on 1,714 reviews.
Trustpilot currently shows a lower overall score of 4.3/5 based on 1,789 reviews.
Its current review distribution shows:
- 89% five-star;
- 6% four-star;
- 1% three-star;
- less than 1% two-star; and
- 3% one-star.
Trustpilot’s current review summary says customers frequently praise helpful and knowledgeable staff, communication and assistance with retirement-account transfers. It also notes reports from some reviewers concerning unexpected costs, pricing on certain coins and slower customer-service response times.
That creates a more useful picture than simply describing Goldco as highly rated.
There are strong positive reputation signals, particularly around service and guided account setup.
There is also material negative evidence that a prospective customer should investigate, particularly around transaction economics and some aspects of service.
Neither should be ignored.
Goldco Complaints
BBB currently reports:
74 complaints during the previous three years
38 complaints closed during the previous 12 months
Recent published complaint material includes allegations involving:
- product premiums and purchase-versus-resale economics;
- delays or difficulties during liquidation;
- communication or response problems; and
- sales or contact practices.
One 2026 complaint, for example, alleged a substantial difference between what the customer originally paid for metals and their later assessed value. Goldco responded in the BBB record and noted that buyback values can change with spot prices, supply, demand, inventory requirements and other market factors.
Another complaint alleged difficulty obtaining a withdrawal and receiving responses during the liquidation process. Other complaints concern repeated contact or sales practices.
Again, these complaints should be treated as allegations made by individual customers rather than established findings against Goldco.
BBB currently categorizes some complaints as resolved and others as answered. An “answered” complaint does not necessarily mean BBB has found against the company.
BBB explains that this status can include cases where the business responded but the consumer did not accept the response or did not subsequently tell BBB whether they were satisfied.
The useful takeaway is not simply that complaints exist.
It is that several recurring themes involve exactly the areas investors should independently verify before purchasing: pricing, product premiums, liquidation procedures and communication.
Goldco Buyback Program
Goldco offers a buyback service for precious metals.
Its current website goes further and markets what it calls its “Highest BuyBack Guarantee.”
However, prospective customers should establish exactly how any buyback commitment works under the contractual terms applying to their account rather than relying solely on marketing language.
The most important question is not simply:
Will Goldco buy my metals back?
It is:
At what price relative to what I originally paid and the current underlying metal value?
Those are very different questions.
A dealer can offer a convenient buyback process and the investor can still experience poor transaction economics if the original acquisition premium was large.
Before purchasing, ask Goldco what it would offer to repurchase the exact same coin or bar today.
Comparing the current sale price and indicative repurchase price can reveal the effective spread much more clearly than simply knowing that a buyback program exists.
Potential Strengths and Drawbacks of Goldco
Potential strengths
Long operating history in the Gold IRA market: BBB records show the current business has operated since 2011.
Large volume of positive consumer reviews: Goldco has more than 1,700 reviews on both BBB and Trustpilot, with a substantial majority of Trustpilot reviewers awarding five stars.
Gold and silver IRA assistance: The company helps customers establish and fund precious metals IRAs and choose qualifying metals.
Educational resources: Goldco publishes extensive material covering precious metals, retirement accounts and Gold IRA mechanics.
Buyback service available: Goldco offers a route for customers wishing to sell metals back to the company.
Potential drawbacks
Relatively high typical minimum;Goldco has historically referenced a roughly $25,000 minimum for Gold IRA accounts, although this should be verified before funding.
Limited public pricing transparency: Product pages do not provide sufficiently comprehensive live transaction pricing for customers to calculate premiums on every potential purchase before speaking with a representative.
Custodian and storage costs: Holding physical precious metals inside an IRA introduces administration and storage expenses that do not apply to many conventional brokerage assets.
Complaints involving transaction economics and liquidation: Recent BBB complaints include customer allegations involving premiums, resale values, communication and liquidation delays. These allegations should not be treated as findings of fact, but they are relevant due-diligence signals.
Sales-assisted rather than fully self-service: Customers wanting a completely digital, execution-only platform may prefer a different model.
Who Is Goldco Suitable For?
Goldco may warrant comparison for someone who:
- meets its current minimum investment requirement;
- wants a guided gold or silver IRA setup;
- values telephone and account-representative support;
- wants assistance coordinating a retirement-account transfer or rollover; and
- is willing to evaluate product-level premiums before buying.
It may be less suitable for someone who:
- wants fully transparent online product pricing before speaking with sales;
- wants completely self-service execution;
- has less than the required minimum; or
- does not want to compare and evaluate the economics of individual precious-metal purchases.
The distinction is important. This is not simply a decision about whether you want exposure to gold.
It is a decision about whether Goldco’s particular combination of service, pricing, product selection, IRA infrastructure and liquidation arrangements is appropriate for what you are trying to accomplish.
Questions to Ask Goldco Before Buying
Before approving any precious metals purchase, ask for enough information to calculate what you are actually receiving for your money.
- What exact coin or bar am I buying?
- What is its current spot or melt value?
- What price am I paying?
- What is the premium in dollars?
- What is the premium as a percentage of the underlying metal value?
- Why are you recommending this product rather than lower-premium bullion?
- What would Goldco offer to repurchase the same product today?
- Is repurchase contractually guaranteed, and what conditions apply?
- Which custodian will administer my IRA?
- Which depository will store the metals?
- What are the current administration and storage charges?
- How long should liquidation normally take?
- Who do I contact when I want to sell?
Do not be satisfied with simply being told that a particular coin is IRA-eligible or that Goldco offers a buyback service.
Those facts do not tell you the transaction economics.
Get the numbers.
Comparing Goldco With Other Gold IRA Companies
Goldco should be compared with other precious metals IRA providers on total acquisition cost, minimum investment, pricing transparency, custodian and storage arrangements, buyback economics and the sales process.
Comparing headline annual IRA fees alone can give a distorted picture because the premium paid for the metals themselves may have a much greater effect on the eventual outcome.

Goldco Review 2026: Conclusion
Goldco has a long operating history, substantial consumer-review volume and a service-led Gold IRA model. Its reputation signals are generally strong, but prospective customers should not evaluate it from review scores or headline IRA fees alone.
The critical due-diligence question is the economics of the specific metals offered.
Before funding an account, compare Goldco’s quoted purchase price with the underlying metal value, calculate the premium, understand ongoing custodian and storage costs, and establish how liquidation and potential buyback pricing would work.
Investors comparing Goldco with other providers should therefore assess total transaction economics alongside service quality, minimum investment requirements and account administration.
